William Shapiro, M.A.
Project Supervisor, Archaeologist
Will Shapiro has performed and directed archaeological inventory, National Register of Historic Places evaluations, and test and data recovery excavations at archaeological sites throughout northern and central California, including Butte, Colusa, Fresno, Kern, Klamath, Lake, Lassen, Modoc, Placer, Plumas, Sacramento, Shasta, Siskiyou, Solano, Stanislaus, Trinity, Tehama, and Yolo counties. Will also has archaeological supervisory experience in Florida, Oregon, Nevada, Hawaii, American Samoa, and the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands. He has been employed as a field director or supervisory archaeologist since 1985, and has been a project supervisor with Pacific Legacy since 1995. Will meets the Secretary of Interior’s qualifications as a supervisor of archaeological studies.
Will is proficient in a variety of cultural resources management tasks, including: project management; field direction: cultural resource surveys (Phase 1); evaluations for National Register of Historic Places eligibility (Phase 2); archival and background research for prehistoric and historic resources; and technical report writing. He is widely known for his ability to work with a wide variety of people, including clients, agency representatives, and Native Americans. He is particularly adept at running field crews efficiently and harmoniously.
